Thirteen Weeks and Counting!

Hola!! Alrighty... You ready for this...
1. We went to Lil' Mexico! SOOO fun!! We went with the Garcia family... SO FUNNY! LOVE THEM! I got a blue bag... it is the cross between a vintage and grandma bag... but either way, I LOVE IT!
2. On Monday night we got a call from President Pike and when that happens it usually isn't just a Hello. He was calling to tell us that we would be emergency transferred the next day at noon. WHAT?! I was prepared for this call and for me to pack in two weeks not right now! Apparently two sisters were having trouble so one came to me in Glendale and Sister Ence left for Chino Spanish speaking. My new companion is Sister Beazer. She is from Canada and was Sister Ence's companion in the MTC. She will be going home in August I think.
3. We got to go over to the Stapels and clean their bathroom but first we went to lunch at "Dinah's Chicken"... YUM! Chuck also made us necklaces of elk horn and a turquoise stone... its really pretty!
4. We have been contacting like CRAZY women this week. One day we decided to fast and just knock all day to find that person that needed us. We knocked for almost 4 hours. We got an AWESOME referral for the Armenian elders so we shall see how that turns out...
5. While knocking we knocked into a few random people. We knocked into a pastor that decided to try and fight with my companion in Spanish.. CRAZY!! I didn't know what was happening lol
6. We went to visit a few people in the GHETTO this weekend as well. They are older and are unable to come to church so we set up times to meet with them and have the Sunday school lesson of practice teaching the missionary lessons with them.
7. We have been going around to all the leadership in the ward so Sister Beazer can meet them and it is fun to realize how many people I do apparently know the ward :]
8. We had a few member FHE/meeting this week. One that was HILARIOUS is with the Jones... They are a younger couple with a 7month old. We got to know them and we are potentially setting up a FHE so they can invite a less active member they know... his dad.
9. We got to act in Relief Society on Sunday! The president who totally reminds me of mom wanted us sisters to act out what we should NOT say to someone when they ask us about the church... it was funny!
10. In my reading this week... Alma 18:17. I'm the Lord's servant. There is power in being on a mission and having that knowledge that I am called and representing Jesus Christ. I LOVE IT!!

LOVE YOU ALL!!

Twelve Weeks Already!

Hello!! How are you all?!? Here is the happenings of the last week!

1. We went to snow last Monday and then it snowed even MORE this week! Like up in my ward to those that are more up the mountain. CRAZY!
2. Sister Ence and I were given the name of a lady to go visit that is a less active. We go to her house which is in Chinatown and meet this 85 year old lady. She tells us she is the only black lady that lives in Chinatown. It was funny. She is SUPER sweet and hopefully she will be able to come to church next week!
3. We had a church tour and lesson with Brother Monk. Well it went pretty good... he has a few lil' random problems when he reads the Book of Mormon (which he is up to Alma 17) there is also a few other things that he needs to think about but we shall see... BUT I was able to extend that baptismal invitation! I was nervous but it went GREAT!
4. We had a few member meetings which went GREAT! It is so nice to be able to meet with the members and get to build the trust with them. It helps to let them feel comfortable giving us referrals and help us with lessons.
5. I had some different foods this week. We got a traditional rice and chicken (member meal), Armenian dish (crazy nice place that a less active took us), vegan dish (noodle things with this mushroom that looked like an octopus-NASTY!) and Lebanon (ground turkey thing and stuffed grape leaves-YUM!) and poor folk sandwich (at my apartment-knock of turkey and cheese)
6. We got to go to the stake and teach to the youth about the mission rules. My district (2 Armenian elders, the 2 Zone leaders and Sister Ence and I) got to teach 3 groups of kids. We all had a different topic to talk about. We had a scripture on the board that they had a scripture chase to and then 9 different topics on the board that they had to guess which the scripture related too then we discussed it. It went REALLY well! Then the youth went to a leaders home for a sleepover and then the next day...
7. They get to go on a day mission! We got a "mini missionary" for the day. Her name was Rachel Potter... she was SO fun! She really helped and shared experiences and a scripture it was GREAT! I hoped she enjoyed it and learned something :)
8. We had a fireside last night with our gospel essentials class... FUN! It was for those that are recent converts, less active or investigating. He had a part member family we have been working with show up AND a less active!! It was AWESOME!! The Bishop talked for a few then it was a mingle time...
9. Sister Ence and I get to go to a Mexican Market today with two members. SUPER excited! Apparently it is just like Chinatown but Mexican...
10. I am working on letters to those of you who wrote...

LOVE YOU ALL!!

Eleven Weeks!

Family!! Today marks my two months in CALIFORNIA!! So crazy!
1. Chinatown was SO fun!! I bought a robe-I look like crouching tiger hidden dragon BUT it is STANKY!!! We also went to Dodger Stadium... it was HUGE!! Don't worry. I took pictures!
2. While we were out knocking one day we knocked into a man named Mark. He invited us to sit with him on his porch. We started talking and found out he is a gay Buddist. SUPER nice! We talked for a bit then when his partner showed up it was time to go so we went on our way. I think it was good to have left him with a hopefully good impression on Mormons but we shall see...
3. We had a GREAT lesson with Sister McVay in the ward! She has been through some REALLY hard times BUT she has an AMAZING testimony of the gospel! AND she is doing GREAT missionary work with her friends and neighbors! I LOVE IT!!
4. One slow day I asked Sister Ence, " What if an elephant just came charging out of that gate?" She goes, "I would say, 'Shyem! What are you doing here?' (In an India voice) and he would say, '(elephant noise)' That's master in elephant."
5. We had a lesson with the Richtie family. I cant lie. They look like a grumpy old couple but we go over and now i LOVE them!! They are great! They told us about their family and the struggles they have had then how since most of their friends are LDS but they do temple work a lot which is GREAT too!
6. It has been raining like CRAZY!!!! Down pour then sun then rain then sun. Lets just say the motivation to knock is not real there on those days hahha
7. We set up a tour with a lady who seems a lil redneckish... example we knocked on her door and she was wearing a shirt that said, "Save water, drink Beer" Then she was telling us about how it is so different being here in CA then in Florida when she could go shot her gun when ever she wanted... ANYWAY she set up a tour and we had it this morning and it was GREAT!! The Spirit was great and she was listening and seemed pretty open so we shall see how it turns out!
8. All of those out there reading this that love Mormon Tabernacle Choir.... I met the director yesterday! He was in my ward. We sat next to him and I shook his hand! Brother Mack Wilberg. He was a nice man.
9. We got to watch eh restoration movie with Iris and Daniel and really start teaching Daniel about the church and answer some questions he had... I am excited for him!
10. Today we went up to the snow! Yes. Snow in CALIFORNIA! SO COOL! I took pics. Don't you worry!
11. As I have been studying and really getting into the Book of Mormon I realize how blessed we are for having the knowledge that we have of the truth fullness! It is such GREAT blessing that we all HAVE to take advantage of!! So many different things that help us through our lives that if we read and just apply them we can find the strength!

I LOVE YOU ALL!! I miss you but hope all is GREAT!!
