California Week Three - Check!

Ya'll ready for this? (You would think I was serving in the south... ahahah)

1. We have been listening to this Trek CD... if any of you haven't hear do fit CHECK IT!! WAY good!

2. Sister Ence and I were out knocking and we decided to go into this apartment complex... we meet EVERY interesting people example 2 girls that looked very comfortable in one apartment, another example is a place with a "fire" pole in the living room... AWKWARD! BUT we knocked into a another apartment and we met Andy! We said our part and he said that he and his wife are new to the area and were looking for a church! HELLO!! Golden! But not really because that was last Monday and we have gone back but he wont commit to any time to meet for a church tour or anything... But don't you worry because we will still work on it!

3. Jan 4th was Sister Ence birthday so we went to lunch... guess where!! PHO!! Well it was called Pho Citi... LOVE IT!!

4. We had our first REAL church tour with an investigator! His name is Jacob. He met him while we were trying to get a hold of his mom and sister. He is 18 years old, just got out of jail where he had been for a year. He is finishing his high school up right now and then he wants to be an x-ray technician. When we give tours we invite the investigators to pay attention to how they are feeling during the tour. Right off when we were in the church he says, "I'm not gonna lie to you. I'm a gangster and i feel safe here. Like i don't have to watch my back." Little awkward but okay thats a good start! Then we were talking about the Book of Mormon being evidence of Joseph Smith and we asked him if he liked how we can have evidence to read and touch. He goes, probably not jokingly, "I don't like evidence." More awkward! Oh well. The Spirit was strong and the tour when good. We gave him a Book of Mormon to read, he didn't show up at church Sunday but we will keep going to check on him.

5. I had my first dog encounter... WHOA! This thing was HUGE and barked REAL loud and there was even a fence between us and i was still scared! oh well.

6. Yesterday Sister Ence and I decided we were going to extend 10 tour invitations that day... our norm goal is7 so it wasn't that big of a deal. They had to be real not just an invite for a number. We were knocking this street and jsut not much success. The people weren't very nice (shocker. I know.) but we only had a few houses left. We knock on the last door and we were about to walk off the porch when Carrie opens the door. She is this sweet 81 year old lady. We start talking and she ACCEPTED our tour invite!! We talked a little more and she wants to bring a friend! Even better! Then she was just saying how sweet we were and how she was glad we knocked on her door and that she knew a couple Mormons so the tour would be interesting... We are SUPER excited!! The tour is Saturday so I will let you know on Monday how it goes!

7. Also yesterday was our ward conference it was ALL about missionary work! I LOVED it!! Someone told a story about a family that put on the front door frame, "Now entering the mission field" I thought it was so cool! But then I was thinking about it more... and the mission field can be in your home too! Either way it was cool!

8. I'm SOOO grateful for those of you who write me!! It keeps me going!!

9. I will be sending pictures to mom so hopefully she can scan them or something so you can see about some on my adventures!

LOVE YOU ALL!!!

California Week Two - Check!

Hello again!! I miss talking to all of you!!

1. All of those that wrote me an email... they are printed and I will write you a real letter back since my email time is limited...

2. Last Monday we played basketball and I must have been on one because sister Arbogast be rockin it! hahaha

3. Sister Ence and I had to get the brakes changed on our car so we take it in and the guy says, "Yeah that will take about 4 hours." What?!? We were then stuck out of our tracking area with no car. A set of sisters picked us up, dropped us off in our area and then a different set of sisters took us back not using the freeway by the way because she was too uncomfortable so our 10 minute ride back turned into 45 minutes... OH well! We got to go over the batman bridge!! The bridge that was in the Batman movie... I took a pic, I will send it soon!

4. I shouldn't be saying this BUT we have got some SKETCHY parts to our area! Glad I got the mase! It has been in my pocket ready to go a few times. But one main bad road is "Drew Street" which we went by the other day and took a picture. Don't worry it was during the day! BUT while we were there we saw a...

5. Elote cart!! Never had it but we tracked this cart which was pretty much a shopping cart with stuff on it for Elote. Elote is a corn on the cob on a stick with mayonnaise, cheese like Parmesan, chili powder and lime juice... YUM!! SO good! We told the Elders we got some and they were mad that we stopped in the area because we are two white girls in the hood going down an alley for some elote cart...

6. Sister Cetina is a sister that we are working with that is GREAT! She is super nice! She joined the church like 30 years ago but has fallen addicted to coffee but is trying to work her way back so we can go to work in the temple... she hasn't drank coffee now for like 10 days!! We are super proud of her!

7. We were driving one night to find a house and we see this fish tank... Sister Ence goes, "AQUA TANK!" What?! She said it was a cross between fish tank and aquarium... it was funny whatever she was saying

8. The Salazar Family! They have 2 of the 5 children that are baptized and the parents are not. We are working with them but it is really frustrating to be honest. They are great when we are there and say they want to come to church and be baptized but then they don't show up to church or aren't home when we stop by to remind them but we are still working on it.

9. We have TWO church tours!! We do this cool thing where we give tours of the church. We talk bout the foyer and how there are pictures of Christ everywhere, we talk about the Spirit and ask them to pay attention, we go to the chapel and talk about the stand and no paid ministry and then the sacrament and then baptism and the font... anyway we gave out 41 invitations last week and got 2!! We are excited!! Hopefully they show up!

10. We taught Relief Society! it was good! Taught about reading scriptures, inviting the spirit (prayer), and self evaluation.... it was fun to teach again like that
11. We just had an Armenian bbq today!! Chicken on kabobs, some bread thing... and humus... either way it was YUMMY!!

I think that is all for now... Until next week...

LOVE YOU ALL!!
